Unlocking Sony Xperia x10

August 22, 2010

Intro

Ok, just a quick post here, after leaving my phone on the pub table during a toilet visit one of my friends tried to get in and not knowing the pattern locked the phone out.

No problem I thought, I'll just enter my google username/password and unlock it...unfortunately the phone will not accept my credentials, although I know them to be correct as I can sign into google with them. I'd heard several suggestions about sending messages to yourself and using the options in there to factory reset, this was not acceptable to me!

Anyway, to cut a long story short, enter your google username, in my case I didn't add the gmail.com/googlemail.com suffix and then enter 'null' as the password (minus the quotes) and the phone will let you enter a new pattern. Voila! unlocked!

Personally that seems insane to me, as anyone with solely my username could have unlocked my phone, but me with the password as well was unable to, smacks of the normal counter arguements to copy protection on software, namely that it just annoys legit users, whilst providing a very minor irritant to those determined to pirate it.

Anyway, technical details below in case it doesn't work for you:

Firmware: 1.6
Baseband version: 1.1.25
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-rel
Build: R2BA020

I hope that helps some people
